Bashlyk was originally worn by the highlanders of the North Caucasus , from whom the Cossacks borrowed it [4] . According to Babur-nama ( XVI century ), the headdress was presented as a gift with a fur coat [5] . It was introduced in the Russian Imperial Army in 1862 [6] and during the war of 1877–78. It turned out to be so expedient that it began to be tested in Western Europe. So, in 1881, the entire detachment of French troops sent to Tunisia was equipped with towers [3] .
In the Russian army, the lower ranks of the cap were worn together with an overcoat in different ways, depending on the equipment available, and they were thrown over the head in inclement weather or in frost below -5 ° C [7] .
Among the Turks, the head is also called kalym - a reward paid by the groom to the bride’s parents, consisting of a pointed cap with long blades that tie the neck when putting it on the head [3] .
