Egor ( George ) Arsenievich Pokrovsky ( 1834 - 1895 ) - Russian pediatrician, psychologist, philanthropist; Doctor of Medicine (1870). The largest researcher of children's physical education and children's folk games of different peoples and regions of Russia of the 19th century, whose books on the world of childhood are published and reprinted for three centuries in a row.

Biography
He was born on January 13 (25), 1834 [1] in the village of Novo-Nikitsky of the Korchevsky district of the Tver province in the family of a priest .
In 1860 he graduated from the medical faculty of Moscow University with a doctor ’s degree and began working as a doctor in the city of Pudozh, Olonets province . Since 1862 he lived and worked in Moscow: in the Children's Hospital on Bronnaya Street (resident, in 1882-1895 - director and chief doctor). In 1872, the Department of Institutions of the Empress Maria was sent abroad for four months, where he studied the organization of children's clinics in Berlin, Vienna and Paris. Pokrovsky organized sections of children's hygiene of the medical and anthropological exhibition at the Polytechnic Museum (1879) and the Exhibition of the Society of industriousness in Moscow (1888); also a section on the physical education of children at the World Exhibition in Paris (1889), for which he was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor [2] [ specify ] .
In addition to medicine, he was engaged in social activities - he was a member of the Society of Russian Doctors in Moscow, vowel chairman of the medical commission of the Moscow City Duma , chairman of the Medical Commission of the Imperial Society of Lovers of Natural History, Anthropology and Ethnography , organizer and editor (in 1890-1895) [3] psychological pedagogical journal " Bulletin of education ." The most important works are devoted to the problems of child development and upbringing, physical education and children's games of different peoples and regions of pre-revolutionary Russia. His book “Children's games, mainly Russian (in connection with history, ethnography, pedagogy and hygiene)”, the first edition of which was prepared in 1887 on the basis of more than 2,000 correspondence letters from informants from all over Russia, is best known. The book in various versions was reprinted in 1892 and 1895, and then almost a hundred years later.
Pokrovsky was also the first chairman of the Moscow Therapeutic Society and one of the founders of the Moscow Hygienic Society .
He defended his thesis "On the source of connective tissue neoplasm during overgrowth of the lumen of blood vessels" for the degree of Doctor of Medicine (1870) [4] .
He lived in Moscow on Bolshaya Molchanovka; since 1874 - at the Children's Hospital on Bronnaya Street , 15; since 1895 - on Sadovaya-Kudrinskaya street , 15.
He died on October 16 ( 28 ), 1895 in Moscow. He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery .
He was married to the daughter of Count N. S. Tolstoy .

EA Pokrovsky collected children's things and accessories from all over Russia: cradles, wheelchairs, dolls, clothes, recipes for children's food, children's games of the peoples inhabiting Russia. About 100 unique exhibits and 69 drawings that he donated to the Museum of Pedagogy, then went to the Polytechnic Museum, but they weren’t preserved there, but were partially transferred to other museums and now form part of the REM collection, which has been proved by modern researchers [5]
