Tikhonov, Nikolai Vladimirovich

Nikolai Vladimirovich Tikhonov (born May 23, 1982) is a Russian cosmonaut- tester of the FSBI Research Institute of the CPC named after Yu. A. Gagarin . He has no space flight experience. Prior to joining the cosmonaut corps, he worked as an engineer at RSC Energia . Vice-President of the All-Russian Youth Aerospace Society "Union".

Biography

Nikolai Vladimirovich Tikhonov was born on May 23, 1982 in Novomoskovsk, Tula region [1] in a military family. Nikolai’s mother - Ekaterina Tikhonova worked as a teacher [2] . The family repeatedly moved to various military garrisons, in the first grade Nikolai went to school in Plesetsk . After the family returned to Novomoskovsk, while studying at school, Nikolai studied in the laboratory of radio and aerospace modeling them. A. Volodin at the Palace of Children and Youth Creativity [3] .

He entered the first year at the Moscow Aviation Institute named after S. Ordzhonikidze without exams as a laureate of the All-Russian competition "Cosmos". In March 2005, he graduated from the aerospace department of the Moscow Aviation Institute with a degree in modeling and research of operations in organizational and technical systems with the qualification of engineer. From March to October 2003, while studying at the institute, he worked as the system administrator of the All-Russian Youth Aerospace Society Soyuz, and from November 2003 to March 2004, he worked as a programmer at the Central Scientific Research Institute of Automation in Korolev, Moscow Region [4] .

Since September 2005, after graduation, he worked as an engineer in RSC Energia [3] .

Space Training

In 2004, while studying at the institute, he underwent an initial medical examination at the Institute of Biomedical Problems. On August 8, 2006, he received admission from the Main Medical Commission and was recommended for admission to the cosmonaut squad in 2006. On October 11, 2006, by a decision of the Interdepartmental Commission for the Selection of Cosmonauts, he was recommended for admission to the post of candidate for cosmonauts of the RSC Energia detachment. On February 26, 2007, he embarked on a two-year course of general space training. From June 28 to July 4, 2008, in Sevastopol, as part of a conditional crew, along with cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin and astronaut Catherine Coleman ( USA ), he participated in training in case of landing of a descent vehicle on water [3] .

On June 2, 2009, having completed general space training, he passed state exams at the CPC with an “excellent” mark. On June 9, by the decision of the Interdepartmental Qualification Commission, he was awarded the qualification “test cosmonaut” and handed the cosmonaut certificate No. 206. By order of the head of the Russian Space Agency A. Perminov dated August 10, 2009 No. 118 Tikhonov was appointed to the post of test cosmonaut of the RSC Energia team, for the period of general space training he was seconded to the Yu.A. Gagarin RGNII CPC. In connection with the creation of a single cosmonaut corps, he quit RSC Energia and on January 22, 2011 was accepted into the detachment of the FSBI NII TsPK as a test cosmonaut [1] .

From August 12 to 14, 2012, at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, as part of the conditional crew, together with CPC instructors, he took part in the practical development of the crew’s actions after landing in the desert [5] .

From 2012 to 2014, he worked at MCC-M as the main operator. He participated in the prelaunch preparation of the Soyuz TMA TPK as a CA operator.

On August 4, 2014, on the basis of the Menzelinsky branch of the central aero club of the Republic of Tatarstan, DOSAAF of Russia took part in a three-week special parachute training of astronauts. In September 2014, he took part in flight training to conduct visual and instrumental observations of natural and man-made objects of Lake Baikal and its adjacent territories. The trainings were carried out on board the Tu-134-LK laboratory aircraft [6] .

On June 22, 2015, by the decision of the Interdepartmental Commission for the selection of astronauts and their appointment as crew members of manned spacecraft and stations, he was appointed flight engineer of the backup crew of the Soyuz MS-02 spacecraft (expedition ISS-49 / 50 ) and the main crew of the Soyuz MS-04 spacecraft (expedition ISS-51 / 52 ). On August 6, 2015, his appointment to the crew of the expedition was confirmed by a NASA press release 15-161 [3] [7] [4] .

From June 29 to July 3, 2015, one of the stages of preparation for space flight took place - visual-instrumental observations. During the preparation, he participated in five training flights on a Tu-134 LK1 laboratory airplane [3] .

On July 6, 2015, as part of the ISS 51/52 main crew, together with Alexander Misurkin and Mark Vande Hey, he began preparations for the Yu.A. Gagarin. In January 2016, he underwent training on actions in the event of an emergency landing in a wooded area in the winter. In August 2016, together with A. Misurkin and M. Hey, he passed a comprehensive test training on the Soyuz simulator and an examination training on the ISS Russian segment.

September 13, 2016 in connection with the decision of the Roscosmos Group of Companies to reduce from spring to 2017 the ISS Russian crews from three to two people, Tikhonov was removed from the main crew of the Soyuz MS-04 spacecraft [3] .

On October 19, 2016, at the start of the Soyuz MS-02 TPK, he was an understudy for the ship’s flight engineer. On November 15, 2016, a message appeared on the forum of the journal Cosmonautics News about the possibility of his appointment as a flight engineer of the Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft [3] .

In January 2017, as part of a conditional crew, together with NASA astronaut Tyler Hage and instructor of the CPC Igor Pereverzev, he underwent training on actions after landing in a wooded and marshy area in winter [3] . In connection with the postponement of the launch of the Nauka module for 2019, the crew of the Soyuz MS-10 ship was reduced, and Tikhonov N.V. was removed from the main crew of the Soyuz MS-10 ship [8] .

Since April 2019, undergoing training as the commander of the space expeditions ISS-63 /64 and the main crew of the Soyuz MS-16 TPK [9] .

Family, hobbies

Married to Tatyana Alexandrovna Tikhonova (before marriage Safonova, born 1982, was born in Ukhta (Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic), married since April 29, 2008. A daughter is growing up in the family - Bozena (born 2009) [3] and son Leonid (born 2012).

Nikolay is interested in football, driving, reading [3] .
