History
The park is built on the part of the former earthen fortification at the Viru Gate ("The High Bastion") [1] , in accordance with the plan for landscaping Tallinn drawn up in 1876 with the participation of the prominent landscape architect Georg Kufaldt . The opening took place in 1898.
The authorship of the garden pavilion in the park belongs to the architect Nikolai Tamm (senior).
To ascend to the park, stone stairs were built; a fountain was built from the side of Valley Street.
During the battles of the summer of 1941, the fallen aerial bomb partially destroyed the Virus Gate, several soldiers of the German army who died in battle were buried in the park, a fountain was lost during the war, its metal sculpture went into re-melting.
In 1947, the fountain “Boys and Fish” was erected near the park (sculptor Voldemar Mellik ) [2] [3]
At the rise from the side of the street Valley opened a republican board of honor.
