Description

Parasitize on mammals from the order of rodents ; among specific hosts, the species of rats Rattus macleari is known). The species was first described in 1904 by the French zoologist Louis Georges Neumann (Louis Georges Neumann, 1846-1930) [1] [2] [3] [4] . Mites of Ixodes nitens are considered as an extinct species, as its host was no longer found. The last time the rat Rattus macleari was found more than 100 years ago (in 1903) [5] .

Distribution

Christmas Island (Indian Ocean, near Indonesia) [1] .
