Champion Fight with Carlos Gonzalez
On May 15, 1999, he entered the battle against the World Welterweight Champion according to WBO Mexican Carlos Gonzalez . He won by knockout in the first round and won the title.

Loss of title

On January 4, 2003, he met the WBO World Welterweight Champion American Demarkus Corley . The judges unanimously gave the victory to the champion: 116/112 and 117/111 (twice).

Championship fight with Miguel Cotto
On December 11, 2004, he met with the WBO World Welterweight Champion Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto , who had a record of 21-0 (17 KO). Puerto Rican won by TKO in the 6th round.

Welterweight title
