Most of the dead tourists are British . In addition to 30 British citizens, 2 Germans, 3 Irish, and one citizen of Belgium, Portugal and Russia were killed (Tatyana Khomenko, her daughter Elena Khomenko was wounded in the legs) [3] .

The attacker was Seyfuddin Rezgi, a 23-year-old native of Sillan vilayet, a university student in Kairouan . An examination established that he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the attack. An unused explosive device was discovered during it. Witnesses claim that during the shooting, the attacker shot the dead on camera and laughed. [4] The police are confident that the terrorist had assistants who did not directly participate in the shooting. Experts found that all bullets were fired from the same weapon, a Kalashnikov assault rifle . In total, the terrorist had four stores for the machine [5] . He was killed in a shootout with security services.

Tunisian authorities detained 12 suspected of involvement in the terrorist attack, two more are wanted [6] [7] .

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Tunisia was aware of the impending attack on tourists [8] .

Along with the attack in Sousse, on the same day, two other notable terrorist attacks took place, for which ISIS claimed responsibility: an attack on a factory in France [9] , as well as an explosion in a mosque in Kuwait [10] .

Three months earlier, another major terrorist attack took place in Tunisia, as a result of which more than 20 people were killed in the Bardo National Museum .
