Asian celandine [2] [3] ( lat. Chelidonium asiaticum ) is a species of dicotyledonous plants of the genus Celandine ( Chelidonium ) of the Poppy family ( Papaveraceae ) [4] [5] .

It was originally described by the Japanese botanist Hiroshi Hara as a subspecies of the large celandine ( Chelidonium majus ) - Chelidonium majus subsp. asiaticum H. Hara [4] , and in 1982 was isolated into a separate species by the Czech botanist Anna Krahulkova based on morphological and karyological analysis [6] .
