Biography
Born on August 2 ( August 15 according to a new style) in 1902 in a village of Churilovo, Mologsky district, Yaroslavl province, in a peasant family.
In 1910 he entered a primary school in the village of Vereteya, after which he began to study at the Higher Primary School of the city of Mologi. In 1919-1920 he continued his education in pedagogical courses. In 1920-1921 he worked as a teacher in a rural school in the village of Zolotkovo. In 1922, Saukov entered the geochemical department of the chemical faculty of the Petrograd Polytechnic Institute , which he graduated in 1929. As a student, in 1925 he completed practical training at the Ferghana Exploration and Exploration Party of the expedition of the Commission for the Study of Natural Productive Forces (under the USSR Academy of Sciences) in Central Asia under the leadership of A. Fersman , and also took part in 1927-1928 expeditions to study mercury deposits in Khaidarkan (Alai Range) and Chauvaye (southern Ferghana).
In 1929, after graduation, A. A. Saukov was hired as a researcher at the Commission for the Study of Natural Productive Forces at the USSR Academy of Sciences and was sent to Transbaikalia to study the mercury deposit. In 1932, Saukov was accepted as scientific secretary of the Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Crystallography. MV Lomonosov Academy of Sciences of the USSR, and in the same year as head of the South Darvaz geochemical detachment took part in the Tajik-Pamir expedition of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1935-1937 he worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Crystallography. Since 1937 he taught geochemistry at Moscow State University and the Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute. In 1938-1943 he held the post of head of the Central Chemical Laboratory, in 1944-1949 - deputy director for scientific affairs at the Institute of Geological Sciences of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1949-1952 he was the head, and in 1952-1964 - the supervisor of the Central Asian expedition of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In addition to scientific, he was engaged in social activities. Member of the CPSU since 1945. He was a member of the editorial board of the journal " Geochemistry " (1963-1964).
He died on October 23, 1964 in Moscow. He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery (6th section, 11th row). [2]

Memory
- In honor of A. A. Saukov, the mineral Saukovit (Hg, Cd, Zn) S is named - a type of metacinnabarite containing zinc and cadmium . It was discovered in the mercury ores of quartz-barite-carbonate veins in Ulanda and the Kurai ore zone of Gorny Altai. [3]
- Also named after him is a street in the Zavolzhsky district of the city of Yaroslavl and in the village of Khaidarken ( Kyrgyzstan ).
- Memorial plaques were installed in an elementary school in the village of Vereteya ( Yaroslavl Region , 1977) and on the building of secondary school No. 52 of the city of Yaroslavl (2007).
