In 1991, Annette starred in the movie Bugsy with her future husband Warren Beatty , who produced the film and starred with the actress. For the reincarnation of Virginia Hill , the mistress of the gangster of the 30-40s Bugsy Siegel , Bening received a nomination for the Golden Globe . In 1994, already married to each other, Bening and Beatty again worked together in the drama Love Story . In the future, the actress continued to actively act in films, appearing in the films “ Richard III ”, “ American President ” (nomination for the Golden Globe), “ Mars Attacks! "And" Siege ".
The greatest critical and commercial success of her career was the 1999 film American Beauty . After several passing films and a short break in her career, Bening returned to the cinema in the form of the theater star Julia Lambert in the comedy drama Theater . Bening got her first Golden Globe and was once again nominated for an Oscar, which she lost to Hilary Swank for the second time. A year later, she appeared in the television movie "Mrs. Harris", for the role in which she was nominated for an Emmy [8] and Golden Globe.
