Zhigansky district

Zhigansky national Evenkiysky district [3] , or Zhigansky ulus [4] ( Yakut. Edigeen Uluuһa ) is an administrative-territorial unit ( administrative district ) and a municipality ( municipal district ) in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) of the Russian Federation .

The administrative center is the village of Zhigansk .

Geography

Area - 140.2 thousand km². Located in the north of Yakutia. It borders in the north with the Bulunsky ulus , in the east with Eveno-Bytantaysky , in the southeast with Kobyaysky , in the southwest with Vilyui and in the west with Olenyoksky uluses.

Natural conditions

The ulus is located on the Central Yakut Lowland , in the east, the spurs of the Verkhoyansk Range .

The ulus crosses the Lena River from south to north, its numerous tributaries flow through the territory of the ulus - Linde , Muna .

The average January temperature is from −36 ... −40 ° C, July + 14 ... + 16 ° C. Precipitation falls annually 250-300 mm, 300-400 mm in the spurs of the Verkhoyansk Range.

Hydrology

The rivers Babaryna , Bas-Yuryakh , Begidyan , Kuelenke , Mysyk-Syan , Kystatyamka , Lukty , Melti , Muna , Ogonner-Yuryage , Ogo-Unguokhtakh , Oruchan - tributaries of the Lena River flow.

History

The ulus center, Zhigansk, was founded in 1632 by a detachment of Russian Cossacks led by Pyotr Beketov .

In 1783, Zhigansk gained the status of a city, becoming the center of the Zhigansk district of the Yakutsk region . In 1805, the Zhigansk district was abolished, Zhigansk became part of the Verkhoyansk district and lost the status of the city.

In 1822, the Zhigansky ulus was formed as part of the Verkhoyansk district .

In 1924, the Bulunsky District of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was formed, which also included the territory of the Zhigansky ulus.

On December 10, 1930, the Zhigansky (Evenki) region was formed. Subsequently, the status of the national district was canceled.

In 2008, the ulus again received the status of Evenki national [5] .

National composition

According to the 2002 census : Yakuts - 1445 people (33.51%), Evenks - 2046 people (47.45%), Russians - 619 people (14.36%), Evens - 63 people (1.46%), Ukrainians - 52 people (1.21%) and other nationalities - 87 people (2.02%).

Economics

Agriculture

The leading place in the economy is occupied by agriculture (reindeer herding). After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the local state farm and fur farm were disbanded. Agricultural land is 2.2 thousand hectares. In the ulus there is a collective enterprise, tribal communities, peasant farms.

Transport

Transport links are supported by river, air and road transport. Wharf on the river. Lena - Zhigansk and Dzhardzhan. In winter, at the end of December, a winter winch is laid through the Vilyui region, through which freight and passenger transportation is carried out until spring.
