Early Years and Education
Born in a family of Chinese scientists. Shortly after the birth of Samuel, they left for China, subsequently to Taiwan. At the age of 20, Samuel Ting returned to the United States. He graduated from the University of Michigan (doctorate in physics in 1962). He taught at Columbia University, since 1967 - at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (professor since 1969).

Personal life
Married Susan Marx in 1985. They have a son, Christopher, born in 1986. In addition, Samuel has two daughters, Jeanne and Amy, from an earlier marriage [4] .
Community Activities
In 1992, he signed the “ Warning to Humanity” [5] .
