Biography
He was a parish teacher in Ponevezh district and a home teacher.
Known for his calendars, which he published from 1847 to 1864 and then in 1877 ; 19 of them are in Lithuanian in Latin, three in Cyrillic. Ivinskis calendars were a kind of almanac, in which, in addition to information about church holidays and fairs, articles and notes were given on agriculture and households, on medicine and veterinary medicine, and from 1852 a literary department was introduced. Ivinskis calendars were printed in Vilna at the printing house of the famous Vilna publishers and booksellers Zavadsky. For the history of the enlightenment of Lithuania, its Zhmud calendars are of paramount importance; they replaced the Lithuanian press, which arose only in the year of his death.
He translated from German into Lithuanian and published in 1858 a story about Genovev ("Genawejte") by the Austrian writer K. Schmid . Made an abridged translation of "Robinson Crusoe" Defoe . He left a number of unprinted manuscripts: “Polish-Lithuanian Dictionary”, translations of Milton , E. Jung and other authors.
Buried in Kursenai. On the gravestone are inscriptions in Lithuanian and Polish.
In North America , in Pennsylvania , after his death, a European-American society of his name was formed in order to disseminate information about the Lithuanian people.
