Biography
Ivan Andreevich Ivanov was born in 1904 in St. Petersburg . He graduated from seven classes of the school. He graduated from the rabfak , and in 1924 - the Petrograd Institute of Railway Engineers , after which he worked as the head of the section of the Dno-Rybinsk railway of the North-Western Railway . After military service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army , he again worked as the head of the railway section, this time between Moscow and Leningrad. He was sent to the USA to study the American experience in the operation of railways [1] .
In 1931 - 1933, Ivanov worked in the system of the Office of the Railway of the People's Commissariat of Railways of the USSR as a senior engineer, head of the sector. In 1933-1935 , he was teaching at the Moscow Institute of Transport Engineers, and from 1935-1940 he worked as the head of the Omsk Railway track service. Since 1940, Ivanov worked at the Research Institute of Railways and Track Economy as a deputy head of this institute. In 1942-1944, he headed the technical departments of the Main Directorate of Military Restoration Work, the Main Directorate of the Railroad, and then returned to work at the Research Institute as the head of the railway department. In 1946 he defended his thesis [1] .
Since 1947, Ivanov was deputy director, and since 1951 - director of the Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Railways of the USSR . He took an active part in the development of new high-strength rails, new types of railways that are resistant to temperature changes, developed the concept of post-war development of railways in the USSR. He organized the reconstruction and improvement of the Experimental Ring Railway of his institute , equipping the institution headed by him with the latest technology and experimental facilities. He was a member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the USSR Ministry of Railways, a member of the editorial board of the Vestnik VNIIZhT and Railway Engineering magazines, and a consultant to the Great Soviet Encyclopedia. He was actively engaged in scientific activities, published many scientific papers [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 1, 1959, Ivan Andreevich Ivanov was awarded the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Hammer and Sickle Medal [1] .
He died in 1987, was buried at the Nikolo-Arkhangelskoye cemetery in Moscow [1] .
