General Information

Two representatives of the Top 10 of the world ranking took part in the singles. The first seeding number in the single player tournament was David Ferrer (No. 5 in the world at that time). The Spaniard in the home tournament was able to reach the semifinals, where he lost to Andy Murray (No. 11 in the world at that time), seeded in the tournament under the third number. As a result, the Briton was able to win the title by beating another Spanish tennis player Tommy Robredo in the final. Murray won local competitions for the second time (before that he won in 2009). Another representative of the Top 10 Czech Tomas Berdych (No. 7 in the world at that time) lost in the first round of Pablo Andujaru , despite the second seeding number. Last year’s winner, Russian Mikhail Youzhny defended his title, but in the first round he lost to Brazilian Thomas Bellucci , who made it to the main tournament after qualifying.

In the doubles tournament, the first seeding numbers and the winners of the last two rallies, Alexander Peyia and Bruno Soares, left at the start, losing to Leonardo Mayer and Juan Sauze , and the second seeding numbers, the Spaniards Marcel Granollers and Mark Lopez, withdrew from the tournament due to Granollers injury. In their absence, a victory in the competition was won by Jean-Julien Royer and Horia Tekeu , who were seeded under the fourth number. In the final, they beat Kevin Anderson and Jeremy Chardy .
