He studied at the Budapest Academy of Music , including with Jeno Hubai . He played in Budapest in a theater orchestra. In 1918 , he founded the string trio with violinist Jozsef Schmilowitz and cellist Imre Hartmann, a little later transformed into a quartet with the addition of violinist Sandor Röth; in 1919 the quartet gave its first concert in Szeged . The quartet in this composition lasted 23 years, based in England in 1923 . The Lena quartet was considered one of the best in Europe: in 1927 it was he who was asked to record all Beethoven quartets on the 100th anniversary of the composer's death (at the same time, Lehner himself recorded several Beethoven violin sonatas with Louis Kentner ). By 1939 , a million different quartet recordings had been sold by American record companies. However, in 1942 , on the eve of the tour with the Beethoven cycle in Mexico City , there was a conflict between Lehner and three other musicians, as a result of which the band broke up. In the remaining years of his life, Lehner tried to recreate the quartet in different compositions, took part in other chamber projects - in particular, he was a violinist in the very first composition of the Alma Trio ( 1944 - 1945 , with Adolf Buller and Gabor Reityo ).
