Earl Belmore

Earl of Belmore in County Ferman is an ancestral title in the Irish Peer system . The title was created in 1797 for Armar Lauri-Corry, 1st Viscount Belmore (1740-1802). He previously represented County of Tyrone in the Irish House of Commons . He also received the titles of Baron Belmore from Cast Kool in the county of Ferman and Viscount Belmore in 1789 (peerage of Ireland). Armar Lauri was the son of Galbraith Lauri, a member of the Irish House of Commons from the county of Tyrone, and his wife Sarah, daughter of Colonel John Corrie . In 1774, he received royal permission for the additional surname "Corrie." In 1802, he was succeeded by his eldest son, Somerset Lauri-Corrie, 2nd Earl of Belmore (1774-1841). He represented the county of Tyrone in the Irish and British Houses of Commons , sat in the House of Lords as one of the elected Irish peers-representatives from 1819 to 1841 , and also served as governor of the island of Jamaica (1828-1832).

Somerset Lauri-Corrie, 4th Earl of Belmore

His eldest son, Armar Lauri-Corry, 3rd Earl of Belmore (1801–1845), represented Ferman County in Parliament (1823–1831). His eldest son was Somerset Lauri-Corry, 4th Earl of Belmore (1835-1913). He served in the House of Lords as one of the elected Irish peers-representatives from 1857 to 1913 , and also served as Under Secretary of State for the Government of the Earl of Derby (1866-1867). In 1867 - 1872 - Governor of New South Wales , also was Lord Lieutenant of the county of Tyrone (1892-1913). In 1949, after the death of the childless Cecil Lauri-Corry, 6th Earl of Belmore (1873-1949), the count's title was inherited by his cousin , Galbraith Lauri-Corrie, 7th Earl (1913-1960). He was the son of Adrian Lauri-Corry, the fifth son of Admiral Armar Lauri-Corry, the second son of the 3rd Earl of Belmore.

As of 2014 , the title holder is his son, John Lauri-Corry (born 1951 ), who inherited his father in 1960 .
