The name Railway Street has been known since 1911 [1] (on the map of the beginning of the 20th century, it is designated as Railway Road [2] ). It is connected with the fact that the street runs along the Vitebsk railway line.

Initially, Zheleznodorozhnaya street ran from Moskovskoe highway to Privokzalnaya square . In the 1950s, it was extended to Akhmatovskaya Street. In the 1960s, a section from Aleksey Tolstoy Boulevard to General Khazov Street appeared , and in the 1970s the streets were extended to Detskoselskiy Boulevard [1] .

In accordance with the layout drawing on the blueprints of Lenproekt , the missing fragment of Zheleznodorozhnaya Street (between Akhmatovskaya Street and Alexey Tolstoy Boulevard) is supposed to be built [3] . The same document is supposed to extend the street to the north beyond Detskoselsky Boulevard.

On July 12, 2011, at the end of Zheleznodorozhnaya Street, near the Detskoselskaya platform, the Malaya Oktyabrskaya Children's Railway Complex, Tsarskoselskaya Station, was opened [4] .
