The mineral was discovered in 1967 . Named after Ananda Kumaraswamy .

Forms monomineral layers with a thickness of 0.6-5 cm in magnetite ores of the Vilagedera deposit about. Sri Lanka along with chalcopyrite , pyrite and pyrrhotite .
