Parana (football club)

This club should not be confused with the team of the same name that existed from 1910 to 1926 in the same city.

"Paraná" ( port. Paraná Clube ) - Brazilian football club from the city of Curitiba , Paraná . The club ranks third in the state of Parana (after Coritiba and Atletico Paranaense ) in terms of the number of league titles, and, according to two research institutes ( Ibope and Datafolha ), the third largest club in their state [1] .

History

Team predecessors

  • In 1914, two teams were founded in Curitiba - Savoy and Britain.
  • In 1921, the club Palestra Italy (Curitiba) was formed.
  • In 1930, the Atletico Club "Ferrovario" ("Railway" Athletic Club) was formed.
  • Britain for 13 years (from 1915 to 1928 ) won seven state championships.
  • "Palestra Italy" won three state championships (1924, 1926, 1932)
  • Club Atlético Ferrovario from 1930 to 1967 won eight state championships.
  • 1971 - “Britain”, “Palestra Italy” and “Ferroviario” merged into FC “ Colorado ”
  • Colorado won the state championship in 1980 .
  • Savoy ( Savoy Agua Verdi , or simply Agua Verdi ) won the 1967 state championship.
  • 1971 - Agua Verdi changed its name to Pineiros Sports Club.
  • Pineiros won two more state championships - in 1984 and 1987 .

In 1989, Pinheiros and Colorado united in a single team - Parana. In total, all the combined clubs have won 21 state championships. This explains the large number of fans of the club and its further successes [2] .

Parana Club

Already as a single club, Parana won seven state championships in a decade and a half, and also entered Serie A of the Brazilian championship, where it also continued to show stable results. In 2006 , having taken 5th place in the championship, Parana received a ticket to the Libertadores Cup .
