The author of the column in the Russian business weekly "Company" and in the " Literary newspaper ". He is the author of numerous books about the Soviet Union and Russia, which combine elements of historical analysis, chronicle and reporting . His first book, Operation Tehran ( Italian: Operazione Teheran ), is about an unsuccessful attempt by the Delta squad to free American hostages at the Tehran embassy. Later, with the Russian dissident historian Roy Medvedev, Chiesa wrote the book The Changing USSR ( Italian: L'URSS che cambia ). This book was translated into Portuguese in 1988. In 1990, co-authored with Roy Medvedev, released another book in the form of a conversation: “The Gorbachev Revolution” ( Italian: La rivoluzione di Gorbaciov ), first published in the United States of America (“Time of Change”. - Pantheon Books, 1990), and subsequently in Japan .

At the same time, the publishing house Lucarini published the book Transition to Democracy ( Italian: Transizione alla Democrazia ). An updated edition, edited with Douglas Northrop , came out for the first time in the United States (Transition to Democracy. - University Press of New England, 1991), and then in Russia (Transition to Democracy. - International Relations, 1991). This was followed by the books Cronaca del Golpe Rosso and Da Mosca, Cronaca di un colpo di stato annunciato. Based on the events that took place on the territory of the former Soviet Union, the book “Russia Addio” was written, translated into Russian (“Farewell to Russia!” - Geya Publishing House, 1998) and received a wide response from readers (80 thousand copies were published). The book has also been published in Chinese (Pechino: Editrice Nuova Cina, 1999) and Greek (Atene: Kastaniotis, 2000). Roulette russa, which was published in Russia in 2000, was also written on the Russian topic (Russian Roulette. - Human Rights Publishing House, 2000).

Since 2001, Giulietto Chiesa has been working on topics of globalization , both economic and political, as well as military, focusing on the role of the media . He has published many reviews in Italian and other languages. In Russia, two of his studies on the relations between the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO) were published.

He is the author of numerous articles in Russian newspapers such as Literaturnaya Gazeta, Business Tuesday , Moscow News .

In 2001, Chiesa wrote the book “The Big Eight - Genoa ” (“G8-Genova”) about dramatic events during the meeting of the Big Eight in 2001 in Genoa. Later, the book “Afghanistan anno zero” (Afghanistan - the year of zero), written together with the Italian journalist and satirist Vauro (with a preface by Gino Strad , the surgeon, founder of the non-governmental organization Emergency ), was later published by the Guerini Publishing House. The book sold over 115 thousand copies and became one of the best sellers of Italian journalism in 2001. The book is translated into Greek. In the spring of [2002, La Guerra Infinita (Endless War) was published by Feltrinelli , which also resonated in Italy. Giulietto Chiesa in 2002 became the laureate of the Italian national award Premio Nazionale Cultura della Pace .

In 2005, the book Cronache Marxziane (Marxian Chronicles) was published. Answering the questions of journalist Massimiliano Panarari, Chiesa opposed the new imperialism and the “superclan” of the world’s owners - Western investment banks , whose members are Osama bin Laden , Berlusconi and George W. Bush , as well as against the modern media system that is forming this “dream machine”, which is continuously has a strong effect on the minds of people. The book calls for direct obligations and responsibilities in the face of economic, informational and political systems, which, according to Chiesa, constitute a threat to the planet and risk leading the world to ecological disaster and extinction. The same topics are discussed in the book Prima della tempesta (Before the Storm).

Chiesa is the president of the MegaChip association and, together with Elio Veltri , Antonello Falomi and Diego Novelli, is a member of the Presidium of the Association of Builders of a Well-Being Society National Association, whose president is Akille Okketto .

In 2003, Chiesa joined the political alliance of Antonio Di Pietro and Achille Okketto in connection with the 2004 European elections. In 2004, Chiesa was elected to the European Parliament on the list of the Liberal Democratic Party, Di Pietro (“ Italia dei Valori ”) from the Northwest District ( Piedmont , Valle d'Aosta and Liguria ) instead of Okketto, who, in order to maintain his seat in the Senate , Chiesa gave his post, gained by an margin of 14 thousand votes.

On December 15, 2014, he was detained in Tallinn by the Estonian police for 48 hours, while no charges were brought against him. In the European Parliament

He was elected to the European Parliament from the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Support of Europe , which he left in May 2006 to join the Party of European Socialists , which, in his own opinion, “naturally, taking into account his political past and his position on many critical issues of modern life .
