Built in 1983, the engine was manufactured in 1982 by Wärtsilä in Helsinki [2] . In winter, the icebreaker makes the pilotage of vessels along the White Sea to the freezing seaport of Arkhangelsk , does it alone. Engaged in towing facilities, ensuring the operation of oil rigs in the Barents Sea. Reconstruction and repair work of the icebreaker is carried out at the docks of the "Red Forge" . An icebreaker can advance in ice 0.9 m thick at a speed of 1 knot.

Participation in Rescue Operations

On November 15, 2011, the cargo ship Captain Kuznetsov, which was traveling from Yar-Yakh to Arkhangelsk, fell into a storm in the throat of the White Sea. At 2:00 the last communication session with the crew, at 3:30 in the area of ​​the Kanin Nos Peninsula, an emergency buoy from the ship was recorded. At 11:35 on November 16 the dry cargo ship was discovered by the crew of the IL-38 aircraft of the Northern Fleet naval aviation. The vessel was in the throat of the White Sea, 60 km east of Cape Orlov-Tersky Tonky, 104 km from the place of the last connection. At 16:35 the dry cargo ship was taken in tow by the Dikson icebreaker for delivery to the port of Arkhangelsk. [3]
