Biography

Gennady Petrovich Dementiev was born March 21, 1932 in Moscow in the family of the Soviet organizer of industry, twice Hero of Socialist Labor Pyotr Vasilyevich Dementiev and Dementieva Evdokia Petrovna (1912-1996).

In 1957, he graduated from the Leningrad Air Force Academy named after A. M. Mozhaisky, after which he worked as a design engineer at the Zenit Moscow Machine-Building Plant. In 1958 he switched to teaching at the Moscow Aviation Institute . Since 1967, he worked as deputy chief designer of the Zenit plant. He participated in the development of the Spiral orbital aircraft , the MiG-27 fighter-bomber, and a number of its modifications [1] .

Since 1974, Dementyev worked as first deputy general designer, and since 1976 - first deputy general director - chief designer of the Lightning Research and Production Association . He actively participated in the development of the Buran orbiter , missile systems of various types. As a representative of the Ministry of Aviation Industry of the USSR, Dementyev participated in the preparation and implementation of the first flight of the Buran on November 15, 1988 [1] .

By presidential decree of December 30, 1990, for "great achievements in the creation and testing of the reusable space-rocket system" Energy - Buran "" Gennady Petrovich Dementyev was awarded the high title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and the "Hammer and Sickle" medal [ 1] .

He lived in Moscow . He died on August 18, 1996, was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow [1] .

Rewards

Laureate of the USSR State Prize of 1976 , Doctor of Technical Sciences. He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Badge of Honor , along with a number of medals [1] .
