The museum is located in a newly constructed building, designed on a competitive basis in 2003 by the architectural bureau Pir II Arkitektkontor . The museum building, with a total area of 710 m², was built in 2008, but more than seven years remained in the process of completion due to a number of technical problems [1] . The construction cost cost NOK 42 million [2] .
From 2011 to 2013, the German linguist Michael Riesler [3] was the project manager for the Koltta Saami culture across borders project, conducted by the museum.
