Mathias Thezen ( German: Mathias Thesen ; April 29, 1891 - October 11, 1944) is one of the leaders of the German labor movement, a member of the Communist Party of Germany , a deputy of the Reichstag , an associate of Ernst Thälmann .

Biography
Born in the family of a merchant, studied at the turner. He worked as a worker in the metallurgical industry. In 1910 he joined the Union of Workers of the Metallurgical Industry of Germany (DMV) and the SPD , in 1916 he joined the SDPG . Member of the November Revolution of 1918, he joined the factory council of the port of Duisburg , which also had a strong influence among the miners. He became a member of the KKE . In 1920 he was elected and became chairman of the KKE faction in the city council of Duisburg , defended the interests of young people, the unemployed, and paid attention to the fields of sports and recreation.
In the parliamentary elections of 1928 he was elected to the Reichstag. He also served as secretary of the KKE in Duisburg .
In 1933, after the seizure of power by the Nazis and their ban on the KKE, he went into an illegal position and joined the Central Committee of the KKE.
On September 14, 1933, the Gestapo was arrested, tortured, placed in the Fulsbüttel concentration camp , and sentenced in February 1935 to three and a half years imprisonment for falsifying documents and preparing for treason, said in court that he had not betrayed his ideals. He was detained in a number of correctional facilities, including the Brandenburg-Gerde prison . Before the end of his sentence, he was taken under “ protective arrest ” and was first sent to the concentration camp Emsland , and then to the concentration camp Sachsenhausen .
In 1935-1936, in the Oslebskhausen prison near Bremen, M. Thezen and A. Zefkov created an illegal communist party organization that carried out work among political prisoners and organized mutual assistance [2] .
In May 1939 he was sentenced to four years in prison. Until May 1943 he was held in a Hamburg prison , and then transferred again to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp .
On October 11, 1944, Matthias Thezen for the attempted rebellion was shot along with 26 other prisoners of the concentration camp, including Rudolf Henning and Ernest Schneller .
In Culture, Memory
A street near the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp was named after Thezen.
During his lifetime, Matthias Thezen became the prototype of a literary hero - Heinrich Thorsten from the novel by V. Bremen “The Test” (1934) [3] .
In 1951, the name of Matthias Thezen was given to the shipyard in the city of Wismar East Germany . Several ships were named after Tesen.
A monument to Matthias Thezen was erected in Wismar ; demolished in 1990 after the collapse of the GDR.
The name of Matthias Thezen is immortalized in the Monument to 96 deputies of the Reichstag, killed by the Nazis , located in Berlin on the Republic Square in front of the Reichstag.
