General information
The first mention of the planned start of the publication Science Advances was made in February 2014 [1] , and the first issue took place a year later, in February 2015 [2] .
The magazine became the first exclusively online publication among peer-reviewed , interdisciplinary open access journals in the system of the American Association for the Advancement of Science [3] . It is published in English.
Since the magazine began to be published in 2015, the calculation of its impact factor , according to publishers, will be received no earlier than 2017 [4] .
Publishing Funding
Initial investment in the creation of the journal was made by the American Science Promotion Association Its further financing is supposed to be carried out due to the publication fee ( English Article processing charge (APC) ), which in 2015, depending on a number of details, was set up to 4 thousand US dollars per article [5] . According to the experience of previous editions, the magazine’s management believes that in reality, it’s not the authors themselves who pay for the publications, but sponsors or interested organizations.
According to some critics, the fee charged for publication is excessive [6] .
