Biography
Born in 1889 in the city of Valdheim , East Prussia . After graduating from school in 1904, she worked as a servant in various places. In 1916 she joined the SPD , in 1919 the NSDG and, finally, in 1921 she became a member of the Communist Party of Germany .
In 1923, she became the head of the Legherdorf branch of the ADGB union. From May 1924 to June 1931 she was the head of the KKE in Legerdorf.
In 1929 she was elected as a deputy of the local legislative body of the province of Schleswig-Holstein . In 1929-1930 she was a representative of the KKE in the government of Steinburg .
In September 1930, she was elected a member of the Reichstag as a member of the KKE.
In 1931-32 she underwent political training in the USSR , and already at the end of 1932, together with other German communists, she was preparing for underground work in case of a possible ban of the Communist Party by the Nazis.
In 1933, the KKE was banned by the Nazis. The first time she was arrested in Itzehoe in May 1933, then again in September on charges of preparing for high treason, but in January 1934 she was acquitted by the court. Returned to Legerdorf . Arrested again on charges of overseeing the construction of the Siegfried Line , and in September 1939 she was imprisoned in the Ravensbrück women's concentration camp . In December, due to a serious illness, she was released from a concentration camp, died in Lederdorf in March 1940.
Memory
The name of Eliza Augustat is immortalized in the Monument to 96 deputies of the Reichstag killed by the Nazis , located in Berlin on Republic Square in front of the Reichstag.
