History
A Sunny Day in Glasgow emerged as the union of two friends, Ban Daniels and Evera Nalensa, who returned to Philadelphia after several years in the UK. [2] The name of the musical group was coined by Avery Nalens, who lived in Glasgow , and Daniels decided to leave him after Nalens left the band. [3] Daniels asked his twin sisters, Robin and Lauren, to participate as vocalists in recording the material they were working on.
In March 2006, the band released several songs united in The Sunniest Day Ever EP. The student radio station WNYU at New York University drew attention to this album, taking first place in the chart. The music critics of Pitchfork Media , who rated the EP as positive, turned out to be favorable. [2] [4]
In 2006, the group signed a contract with Notenuf Records and ultimately released their debut album Scribble Mural Comic Journal in February 2007. [5] This release received a lot of critical reviews from Pitchfork Media , which rated "8.0" and "Recommended", in this Drowned in Sound gave the album a score of "9/10", calling it "a contender for the title of best album of the year." [6] [7] The musical group collects early recordings and releases them as the Tout New Age EP in the summer of 2007.
In 2009, the band released their second album, Ashes Grammmar . During the recording of the album the group was forced to undergo some changes. First of all, it affected the former bass player Brice Hickey, who broke his legs in several places after he fell down loading equipment into the car. In this regard, Ben Daniels was forced to prescribe bass parts himself, this also led to Robin Daniels leaving, she was forced to care for bedridden Bris Hickey, who was her boyfriend. Loren Daniels was also forced to leave the band due to entering graduate school in Colorado, forcing Ben Daniels and guitarist / drummer Josh Mikima to hire vocalist Annie Fredrikson, who also has classical cello and keyboard skills. [8] After finishing the album, Ryan Newmier joined as a bass player, and Josh Mikim's friend Adam Herndon joined as a drummer. In addition, thanks to an ad on her Myspace blog, the band was able to find another singer, Jen Goma. [9] The new line-up finished recording the songs and released them as the Nighttime Rainbows EP in March 2010 and Autumn Again later in October. [ten]
On June 24, 2014, the third album Sea When Absent was released.
