History

There are several theories of the origin of the B-52 cocktail. Its name is associated with the group The B-52s , with fashionable women's hairstyles in the 60s, named after the Boeing B-52 bomber "Stratofortress" , or directly with the bomber himself [2] . One theory claims that the cocktail was created at the Alice bar in Malibu , the other that the cocktail was created at the bar of the Banff Springs Hotel in the Canadian province of Alberta in 1977, or at the Keg's steakhouse restaurant in Calgary provinces; there are other applicants for the invention of a cocktail [3] . There is a legend that a cocktail was invented by American pilots stationed in Italy during the Second World War .

Cooking

IBA Cocktail Recipe [4] :

  • 20 ml Kahlua coffee liqueur
  • 20 ml Bailey's Cream Liqueur
  • 20 ml Grand Marnier Orange Liqueur

Liqueurs are carefully poured in order so that the layers do not mix (“build” method). A cocktail is served in a pile ( shot glass ) with a cocktail straw. The top layer ( Grand Marnier or Cointreau ) is set on fire and the cocktail is quickly drunk through a straw. [5] [6]

The B-52 serving method with a burning orange liqueur is sometimes referred to as Flaming B-52 .

There is an option in which a cocktail is mixed and served on ice.

Variations

A series of cocktail options carries names derived from B-52, and are known as the “B-50 series”:

  • With Frangelico nut liqueur instead of orange liqueur, this cocktail is called "B-51" (B-51).
  • With two additional layers - Frangelico and Bacardi rum, this cocktail is called B-52 with a Full Payload (B-52 with full load).
  • With sambuca aniseed liquor instead of cream liqueur, this cocktail is called “B-53” (B-53). Also, "B-53" is a variation with the replacement of orange liquor with absinthe.
  • With amaretto almond liqueur instead of orange liqueur, this cocktail is called “B-54” (B-54).
  • With Xenta Absent absinthe instead of orange liqueur, this cocktail is called "B-55" (B-55).
  • With peppermint schnapps instead of cream liqueur, this cocktail is called "B-57" (B-57).
