Biography
Kolchevnikov Mikhail Yurievich was born on August 29, 1947 in the Altai Territory in the city of Biysk [1] . In 1971 he graduated from Tomsk State University with a degree in physical engineering. After graduation, he returned to the Altai Territory to the city of Barnaul , where he worked as the head of the radar at the city airport until 1979 [2] .
Even while studying at the university, Kolchevnikov became interested in water tourism. The first serious campaigns were made by him in the mid-1970s. In 1974, in the status of the leader of the group [3], he made the first passage of a number of rapids on the Bashkaus River along the route of complexity category 6 from the mouth of the river Ilduhem to Lake Teletskoye on rafts [2] .
In addition to sports activities, Kolchevnikov paid much attention to the development of tourism in general and water tourism in particular. In 1976, he was appointed to the post of chairman of the water subcommittee of the Altai Route Regional Commission (IWC). In the same year, he was among the pioneers of the site in the upper reaches of the Chuya River called the Mazhoy cascade with a number of thresholds of categories 5 and 6 of complexity as well as a leader [3] . In 1977, Kolchevnikov became a pioneer of the upper Onot River in Buryatia (category 6 complexity) [2] [4] .
In 1978, the first in the USSR [1] complex competitions of water-tourists on the Chuya River took place, called the Chuya-rally. The first Chuya-Rally competitions in May 1978 were regional competitions of water-sportsmen and to a greater extent were a pre-season training camp for water-sportsmen. A lot of attention at the first competitions was paid to theoretical and practical training in the field of safety of alloys. Kolchevnikov was one of the founders of these competitions. The idea of such competitions came to him in 1974, and 4 years later it was realized [5] . Subsequently, for many years, Kolchevnikov was one of the organizers and the main judge of the competition [2] .
In 1979, Kolchevnikov became the pioneer of two Altai rivers of the 6th complexity category at once - Bogoyash and Chulyshman . In the same year, he finally decided to change his occupation and switched to work in the tourism sector. Over the next 10 years, from 1979 to 1988, he worked as the head of the organizational department at the Altai Regional Station for Young Tourists. In 1979, Kolchevnikov was awarded the title of Master of Sports of the USSR [2] .
In the 1980s, Kolchevnikov continued to develop water tourism. In 1981, he became chairman of the Altai Regional Federation of Tourism [2] . Athletes from other regions of the USSR began to come to the Chuya-Rally competitions, the organizer of which he continued to be throughout this time, and the competitions received the status of All-Union [6] . And in 1989, the world's first international water boat competitions were held, at which Kolchevnikov was the main judge. Representatives of many countries and continents gathered on Chuya, including the USA , Great Britain , Germany , Italy , France , Canada , Nepal , Australia , New Zealand , Costa Rica , Czechoslovakia , India , Poland and others [7] . The 1989 competitions served as an impetus for the development of international relations between water sportsmen, allowed Soviet and foreign athletes to exchange experiences, laid the foundation for the active use of rafts as a means of rafting, and gave rise to rafting as such. After the competition, Kolchevnikov became a member of the Presidium of the All-Union Tourism Federation, and in 1990 he was awarded the title of judge of the republican category [2] [6] .
Along with the development of tourism, in the 1980s Kolchevnikov added a few more first passages of complex rivers to his asset. So, in 1982, he became a pioneer of two rivers in the Altai mountains , having a 6th category of complexity - Akalakh and Argut . In 1984, he made the first passage of the Orto and Tentek rivers in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan [2] [4] .
In 1988-1989, Kolchevnikov served as a coach of the USSR national team in the Altai sports mountaineering camp. In 1989, he founded his own travel agency in the city of Barnaul "Altur", which he headed until his death in 2005 [2] .
Since the late 1980s, Kolchevnikov began one of the first USSR watermen to practice alloys outside the country. In 1988, he was trained on the Colorado River as a guide. In 1989-1991, Kolchevnikov became a member and leader of several routes along the Nantahala rivers (1990), Kholichaki (1990), Arkansas (1991) in the USA, Zambezi (1991, Zambia - Zimbabwe ), Revertazan (1991) and Pakuare (1991) in Costa Rica, Chorokh (1993, Turkey ) and others. At the second international competition in 1990 in the USA and the third in 1991 in Costa Rica, he was a member of the jury. As part of the Project raft project, in the beginning of the 90s Kolchevnikov became one of the initiators of the exchange of experience between Russia and the USA and water trips [2] [4] .
In the early 2000s, Kolchevnikov founded a series of competitions that subsequently reached the Russian level. In 2000, he was among the founders of the Russian Cup rafting on Katun. In 2003, he founded competitions among young people on the Kumir River, which received the status of all-Russian competitions. In addition, in 2001 he headed the Altai Territory Rafting Federation, which he managed until his death in 2005 [4] . In 2001, Kolchevnikov was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports of Russia. In 2003, under his leadership, the first high-speed passage of the Katun River took place in 24 hours [2] .
Death
Mikhail Yuryevich Kolchevnikov tragically died on August 10, 2005, when passing the threshold of the Akkem breakthrough (or Akkem pipe ) of category 5 difficulty on Upper Katun. Kolchevnikov was the head of the "commercial rafting", in total in his group there were 3 rafts and a catamaran- two. Also on this day several more groups passed the threshold. The total number of participants was 43 people. The raft, which was led by Kolchevnikov, turned over in the third step of the threshold. Following Kolchevnikov’s group was another raft, which tried to repeat the trajectory of their movement, but turned upside down in the same place. As a result of large shafts [to. 1] and barrels [to. 2] , many people at the same time found themselves in water divorced from rafts. The insurance group managed to quickly pull out almost all but two. As a result, both tourists died. One of them was Kolchevnikov, the second was V. Komissarov, born in 1954. Group members were able to independently pull the bodies out of the water and deliver to the morgue. The Altai Regional Tourism Federation has not conducted an official investigation into the incident [2] [8] .

Kolchevnikov was married to Svetlana Vasilievna Kolchevnikova, with whom he studied together at the same school and university. Notes
- Comments
- ↑ A wave is a perturbation of a water surface in the form of a wave, in which water moves parallel to the flow along the slopes of the shaft up and down. If the crest of the wave is directed perpendicular to the flow, then the shaft is called standing, if at an angle, then oblique.
- ↑ A barrel is an obstruction in the form of a shaft with a reverse flow. The reason for its occurrence is the reflection of the stream falling from the drain from the bottom of the river, as a result of which there is a vertical circulation and reverse flow. Typically, this circulation creates a foamed crest at the top of the shaft.
