Georgy Aslanovich Abashidze ( Georgian გიგი ასლასლის ძე აშაშიშ ; born 1970) - the former mayor of Batumi (2000-2004). The son of Aslan Abashidze , who was a state and political figure of Georgia .

Biography
Origin
It originates from the branch of princes Abashidze , which accepted Islam, and since the end of the 16th century, it ruled Adzharians under the supreme leadership of the Ottoman sultan . In 1918-1921, his great-grandfather Memed Abashidze , a writer and translator, became chairman of the first parliament ( Majlis ) of Adjara, kept Ajaria as part of Georgia, not allowing the Turkish occupation. In 1938, M. Abashidze was shot, and his son Ibrahim (two months before the birth of his son Aslan) was arrested and deported to Siberia. Grandmother - Shaaester Bejanidze came from an aristocratic family that owned northern Ajara .

Political activities
In 2000 he was elected mayor of Batumi, succeeding Aslan Smirbu. In early May 2004, together with his father, he was taken by Igor Ivanov to Moscow.

Georgy Abashidze’s mother, Maguli Gogitidze (1951–2003), was a musician by profession; she was the Chairperson of the Cultural Foundation of Adjara and the Adjara Regional Organization “Women of Georgia for Peace and Life”.
