First Cup of Ireland
On November 18, 1879, the Irish Football Association was created to organize competitions throughout the territory of Ireland, the first decision of which was to create the Irish Cup . The first cup draw began on February 5, 1880, 7 teams participated in it, including Moyola Park. In the first round, “Moyola” beat Avonil, in the semi-finals “Alexander”. In the final, which took place on the Cliftonville cricket field in Belfost , with one and a half thousand spectators, the local Cliftonville was beaten, William Morrow scored the only goal in 75 minutes. Thus, “Moyola Park” became the first winner of the first official tournament in Ireland, this success remains the only significant in the history of the club.
