Museum History
On October 6, 1904 , by a decision of the Zemsky Assembly, a decision was made to open a museum of visual (teaching) aids at the Yarensky Parish School for Men. In 1905 a museum was opened in the city of Yarensk, which was at that time the center of the Yarensky district of the Vologda province .
In 1913 , as a result of the fire of the school building, the museum was closed and rebuilt in 1915 in the newly built building of the Yarensky Women's Parish School. The exhibition included products from the county students.
After the revolution in 1919 , the exposition forms the basis of the newly formed “Pedagogical Museum”.
In 1924 , the Council of Local History Society renamed the “Pedagogical Museum” to the “Regional Museum of the Local Territory”. The museum works on a voluntary basis. In the new museum, there are departments: local nature, production, historical and archaeological.
In 1929 the building of the Transfiguration Cathedral was transferred to the museum. In the new building, the museum opens on June 27, 1930 and is called the “Regional Museum of Local Lore”.
