Title
Normative Chinese reading of hieroglyph 宕 - “dan” ( pinyin : dàng). However, in local dialects this area has always been called “tan”. As a result of scientific research and in accordance with the appeal of local authorities, on February 17, 2014, the hieroglyph 宕 officially instituted the second reading - “tan” ( pinyin : tàn), which is used to designate the ancient state of Tanchang, Tanchan district and other relevant toponyms in this terrain [one]
History
These lands have long been the habitat of non-Chinese tribes, and the Chinese control over them was fragile. In 307, the Chiang state of (宕昌 国) was formed here. In 566, the troops of the Northern Zhou state destroyed Tanchang, and the Tanzhou region (宕 州) was formed, which included the Tanchan district (宕昌 郡) and Gansun (甘松 郡). When the Sui Empire in 583, the districts were disbanded, and the counties within them became directly subordinate to the regional authorities. In 607, the Tanzhou region was transformed into the Tanchang district (宕昌).
When the Tang Empire in 618, the Tanchang district again became the region of Tanzhou. In 742, the Tanzhou region was transformed into Huaidao District (怀 道 郡), but in 758 the district became again the Tanzhou region. In 763, these lands were seized by Tibetans .
Under the Ming empire, a thousand army was placed in these places. Under the Qing Empire, these places were included in the area of Czezhou (阶 州) as the Sigu subregion (西 固 分 州). After the Xinhai Revolution in China, the administrative division was reformed, and in 1913 the Siguskaya subregion was transformed into Sigu County (西 固 县).
In May 1950, the Udu Special Area (武 都 专区) was formed, and the county became part of it. In 1954, Tanchang County was separated from Sigu County, and the rest of the county was transferred to the Gannan-Tibet Autonomous Region (甘南 藏族 自治区), where it became Dzhugchu County . In 1958, the Udu Special District was annexed to the Tianshui Special District, and the Tanchan County was annexed to the Minxian County and transferred to the Dingxi Special District (区 西 专).
In 1961, the Special District of Udu was created again, and the restored county returned to its composition. In 1968, the Udou Special District was renamed Udu County (武 都 地区). In 1985, Udou County was renamed Longnan County (地区).
In 2004, the Longnan County was disbanded and the Longnan District was formed.
