History

For the first time the tram route No. 23 appeared in Moscow in 1909 , at that time it ran from Lubyanka Square to the Rogozhskaya Gate . Then the route was changed several times, completely canceled and entered again; the 23rd tram, more or less close to the current state, received in 1933 , it went from Pokrovsky-Streshneva (not far from the present metro station Schukinskaya ) to Tverskoy Boulevard . In the 1930s, the tramway in the center changed quite frequently, and during World War II, the final tram was transferred from Pokrovsky-Streshnev to Mikhalkovo (where the tram goes at the beginning of the 21st century ). Since 1953, the tram goes to Belorussky railway station , and on February 16, 1955 the tram was launched to the Krasnopresnenskaya metro station.

On August 11, 1973, a route is established from Mikhalkovo to Shmitovsky passage . This tram route will remain unchanged until October 30, 2000 .

On October 30, 2000, the Moscow government decides to shorten the 23rd tram route to the Vagankovsky cemetery in connection with the construction of the Third Ring Road . On the canceled part of the route from the 2nd Botkinsky passage to Shelepikhinsky bridge, a new bus route No. 152 was opened. The temporary route of the ring was to go through the streets, where the tram ran. It was believed that he would interfere with this temporary movement. When the work on the Third Ring Road was completed, on the streets where the tracks were taken off, the car traffic became low-intensity.

On May 26, 2002, a decision was made to shorten the route to the 1st Botkinsky passage . At the same time, it was previously planned to shorten the route immediately to Alabyan Street , but thanks to the actions of Muscovites (a rally in defense of the tram was held), a new ring was built in the 1st Botkinsky Drive, where the 23rd tram turned around. The reason for the closure was the construction of the Third Ring Road on Begovaya Street , where a dedicated tram line ran. In the same year, the Krasnopresnenskoye tram depot was transferred to the Strogino area.

Nevertheless, on December 25, 2004, route 23 is shortened to Halabyan Street . Initially, the cars announced that the closure was temporary, due to the construction of the Begovaya Street interchange with Leningradsky Prospect, but then in 2006 the line was dismantled and reconstruction work started on Leningradsky Prospect . According to data for March 2007, the restoration of the line on Leningradsky Avenue after reconstruction is not planned. According to the data of November 2012, the restoration of the line on Leningradsky Avenue is planned for 2016 [2] .

From October 25, 2008 to August 19, 2013, due to the construction of a road junction at the intersection of the Leningradsky and Volokolamsky highways , Alabyan and Baltic and Leningradsky avenues under the Big Leningradka project, traffic from the Panfilova Street stop to the Metro stop was stopped. Sokol ”(Alabyana Street), also temporarily replaced traffic on route 28.

Rallies in defense of the 23rd tram

Rally in support of the 23rd tram on March 4, 2006

Public organization Muscovites for the tram held three meetings in support of the 23rd tram.

The first meeting was held on March 23, 2002 (the date was chosen according to the route number), about a hundred people took part in the meeting. [3] [4] Then it was planned to remove the lines from the Vagankovsky cemetery to Halabyan Street, but perhaps thanks to a rally, the tram was temporarily kept until December 2004.

The second meeting was held on June 10, 2003 . [5] [6] At that time, a temporary ring was already operating on the 1st Botkinsky Passage. Participants in the rally tried to achieve the preservation of the line after the reconstruction of Leningradsky Prospect.

On March 4, 2006 [7] the last rally was held, more than 100 people took part in it. At that time, the line on Leningradsky Avenue did not work, part of the contact network was already removed. Despite the protests, the line begins to disassemble a few months after the rally.

- What is there an unknown? Everything is known - the stop is “Marina Raskovoy Square”, then “Pharmacy”, then “Academy”, then “Airport”, then “CSKA”, then “Air Terminal” and so on to “Hippodrome”.

Zhenka looked down on his friend, although he was lower.

- Some go by tramway, while others choose freedom and will.

The tram approached. The doors opened, people poured out of the car.

- Yeah. I told you so! - Petka helped the old woman to pull out the bag on wheels and put it on the asphalt. - We transport bricks, granny?

Grandma smiled with a two-toothed mouth.

- Kirpachi, and what should I transport? Build a fence on the grave.

- What about yourself? - joked Petka.

Grandma waved away:

- Fie on you, bully!
