Earl of Cavan is an ancestral title in the Irish Peer system . It was created April 15, 1647 for Charles Lambert, 2nd Baron Lambert (c. 1600-1660). Then he received the title of Viscount Kilkursi from the county of Kings ( Peerstvo of Ireland ). Lord Cavan was the son of Oliver Lambert , who in 1618 received the title of Baron Lambert of Cavan in the county of Cavan ( peerst of Ireland ).
Richard Lambert, 7th Earl of Cavan (1763–1837), was a general in the British Army and participated in the Napoleonic Wars. He was succeeded by his grandson, Frederick Lambert, 8th Earl of Cavan (1815–1887).
Frederick Lambert, 10th Earl of Cavan (1865-1946), was commander during the First World War , and later received the rank of Field Marshal and was appointed chief of the General Staff of Great Britain (1922-1926). He died without leaving male offspring, he was succeeded by his younger brother, Khores Lambert, 11th Earl of Cavan (1878-1950). After the death in 1988 of Michael Lambert, 12th Earl of Cavan , the title was inherited by Roger Cavan Lambert, 13th Earl of Cavan (born 1944 ), a descendant of the 7th Earl of Cavan.
