Club career

Bury

Nugent began his career at the Liverpool Academy, but in 2001 he left her and went to Bury . In March 2002, at the age of 16, he made his debut for the club, substituting for a match against Port Vale . Having scored 11 goals in 26 matches of the Second League season 2004/05 , Nugent interested in larger clubs.

Preston

In January 2005, Nugent moved to Preston North End for £ 100,000. Leicester City

Middlesbrough

On August 14, 2015, Nugent moved to Middlesbrough , signing a contract for three years [8] . On September 12, 2015, the attacker opened the scoring for his goals with Boro, hitting the goal of Milton Keynes Dons [9] . At the end of the 2015/16 season, Nugent scored 8 goals, gave away 8 assists and helped his club get out of second place in the Premier League.

Team Career

In February 2005, Nugent made his debut for the England youth team in a match against the Welsh . He scored the first goal for the youth team against the Moldavian national team on August 15, 2006.

On March 19, 2007, Nugent was called up to the main England team in place of injured Darren Bent . On March 28, he made his debut in the national team, coming on as a substitute in the 2008 European Championship qualifying round match against the Andorran national team (3-0). In that match, he scored the third goal against the opponent in the 92nd minute.

Nugent became the first Preston North End footballer in the 49 years since Tom Finney to play for England. He also became the first England player since 2003 to play in the England Football League , after David James .

In June 2007, Nugent played for the youth team at the European Championships , where he scored one goal.
