Club career
Bury
Nugent began his career at the Liverpool Academy, but in 2001 he left her and went to Bury . In March 2002, at the age of 16, he made his debut for the club, substituting for a match against Port Vale . Having scored 11 goals in 26 matches of the Second League season 2004/05 , Nugent interested in larger clubs.
Preston
In January 2005, Nugent moved to Preston North End for £ 100,000. In the 2005/06 season, he scored 10 goals in 32 matches and helped the club take fourth place in the Championship , but Preston lost to Leeds United in the semifinals of the playoffs. The next season, Nugent scored 15 goals, but the club took only seventh place.
Portsmouth
In July 2007, Nugent transferred to Portsmouth for £ 6 million and signed a four-year contract. [1] In 2008, Nugent as a member of Pompey won the FA Cup in the final match against Ipswich Town for a substitution in the 69th minute. David scored his first Premier League goal on January 18, 2009 against Tottenham Hotspur (1: 1) [2] . January 31 and February 7, he scored a goal against Fulham and Liverpool respectively.
Burnley
On September 1, 2009, Nugent was leased for six months at Burnley . September 12, he made his debut for a new team, coming on as a substitute in the away match against Liverpool. On September 19, David made his debut at the Burnley home stadium in a match against Sunderland (3: 1), substituting in the 57th minute and taking a double [3] . February 1, 2010 Nugent's lease was extended until the end of the season.
In the summer of 2010, Burnley was unable to negotiate with Portsmouth to buy out Nugent. As a result, in the 2010/11 season, David with 14 goals became the top scorer in the Pompi.
Leicester City
On July 5, 2011, Nugent, as a free agent, signed a three-year contract with Leicester City . On August 6, he made his debut for a new team in a match against Coventry City (1-0) [4] , and on August 17, in a match against Bristol City , he scored the first goal for it [5] . February 18, 2012 Nugent scored the winning goal against Norwich City (2: 1) and brought Leicester to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup . In the 2011/12 season, David became the club's top scorer with 16 goals in all tournaments.
On September 23, 2012, in a match against Hull City (3: 1), Nugent scored the first hat-trick in his career. He ended the 2012/13 season again as Leicester's top scorer, scoring 16 goals. February 22, 2014, David scored the 50th goal of the “foxes”. In the 2013/14 season, he scored 20 goals and gave 12 assists, which helped Lester win the Championship and advance to the Premier League.
July 9, 2014 Nugent extended the contract with the club until 2016 [6] . The attacker scored the first goal for Leicester in the Premier League on September 21, 2014 against Manchester United [7] . In total for the 2014/15 season, he scored 5 goals against the opponents.
Middlesbrough
On August 14, 2015, Nugent moved to Middlesbrough , signing a contract for three years [8] . On September 12, 2015, the attacker opened the scoring for his goals with Boro, hitting the goal of Milton Keynes Dons [9] . At the end of the 2015/16 season, Nugent scored 8 goals, gave away 8 assists and helped his club get out of second place in the Premier League.
Team Career
In February 2005, Nugent made his debut for the England youth team in a match against the Welsh . He scored the first goal for the youth team against the Moldavian national team on August 15, 2006.
On March 19, 2007, Nugent was called up to the main England team in place of injured Darren Bent . On March 28, he made his debut in the national team, coming on as a substitute in the 2008 European Championship qualifying round match against the Andorran national team (3-0). In that match, he scored the third goal against the opponent in the 92nd minute.
Nugent became the first Preston North End footballer in the 49 years since Tom Finney to play for England. He also became the first England player since 2003 to play in the England Football League , after David James .
In June 2007, Nugent played for the youth team at the European Championships , where he scored one goal.
