Hootie & the Blowfish is an American rock band formed in Columbia (South Carolina) in 1986 and performing a melodic mainstream post- grunge with elements of blues rock [1] . Cracked Rear View 's debut album was the 1995 best-selling album in the United States: by the time the second, Fairweather Johnson , had sold over 13 million copies. [1] Both records led the Billboard 200 [2] , making Hootie & the Blowfish at that time the country's most popular rock band [1] .

In 1995, the group was awarded two Grammy Awards (in the nominations “Discovery of the Year” and “Best Pop Performance of a Duet or Group” for “Let Her Cry”) [3] , but soon began to lose popularity, in 1998 it decided to take a long pause and returned with new material only in 2003. Frontman Darius Rucker, meanwhile, began a solo career; he became one of the discoveries of 2008 in the country scene [1] .
