Saint-Germain Peace ( French Paix de Saint-Germain-en-Laye ) is a peace treaty between the Huguenots and Catholics, which concluded the third Religious War in France . Signed at Saint-Germain-en-Laye (near Paris) on August 8 [ specify ] 1570 . He granted the Huguenots freedom of religion in all of France , except Paris , with the right to Calvinist worship within the two cities of each governorship of France and the right to hold public office. In support of the contract, the Huguenots received four fortresses - La Rochelle , Montauban , Cognac and La Charite .
