Biography
Son of the pastor of the Church of the Nazarene . It was named after the medieval reformer John Wycliffe . When Wycliffe was nine years old, his family moved to Brooklyn [4] , and later to New Jersey.
Weiklef's musical career began with his participation in the hip hop trio The Fugees , where his partners were Loreen Hill and cousin Jean Pras Michelle . The highest achievement of The Fugees Blunted on Reality 's debut album was 49th on the Billboard Hot 100 , with more than 2 million copies sold worldwide.
In 1997, Wyclef released his first solo album, The Carnival. The second solo album The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book , released in 2000, was recorded with guest artists, including: Youssou N'Dour , Earth, Wind & Fire , Kenny Rogers ; Dwayne Johnson and Mary J. Blige . With Blige Wycliffe released the single "911". In 2000, Wycliffe was included in the MTV Europe Music Awards nomination "Best Hip Hop Artist" [5] .
Illustrating his utopian idea of the brotherhood of people from all over the world, Wyclef releases eclectic recordings with elements of a wide variety of styles, among which Haiti traditional reggae predominates. He never broke ties with his native island and is officially his “goodwill ambassador” abroad.
Produced recordings of Whitney Houston , Carlos Santana and the female group Destiny's Child . In 2006, in a duet with Shakira, he recorded the dance song “Hips Don't Lie,” which led most of the world’s charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 .
In 2010, he planned to run for president in Haiti [6] , but the Central Election Commission of Haiti refused to register him. Wyclef stated that, although he does not agree with the decision of the Central Election Commission, he accepts it and urges his supporters to do the same [7] .
In 2011, the President of the Republic of Haiti was elevated to the Grand Officer of the National Order of Merit and Merit [8] .
