Wangyush Mio ( Alb. Vangjush Mio ; March 3, 1891 , Korca - December 30, 1957 , Tirana ) - Albanian landscape painter , portraitist , draftsman . Wangush Mio was the first impressionist and the most famous landscape painter of Albania of the 20th century . In addition, he was a significant portrait painter , leaving impressive examples of nudity painting [~ 1] . Cooperated as an artist of the scene with the theater of the city of Korca [1] .

The uniqueness of the heritage of Wangusz Mio for Albania isolated from the outside world is in its openness, ability to resonate when compared with other cultures ( Romanian , Italian ), in the bosom of which the artist's personality was formed [2] .

Biography
Vangjush Mio was born on March 3, 1891 in Korce , in the south-east of Albania.
In 1908, together with his brother [~ 2] [4] he went to Bucharest , Romania , where he studied at the National School of Fine Arts (rum.) From 1915 to 1919. In 1919, in the year of the end of art education in the Romanian capital, he opened here his first solo exhibition. Next year - exhibition in native Korce [~ 3] .
From 1920 to 1924 (with interruptions related to lack of money), he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome , in addition, he traveled extensively in Italy during the 20s . Mio with great reverence for the realistic tradition in Italian painting of the XIX-th - the beginning of the XX-th century ; He was interested in the discoveries of impressionist artists . Around 1923, Wangush Mio taught fine art at Korca High School in French. Having finally returned to Korce, in those years one of the most cultural cities of Albania, Mio founded the Association of Fine Arts and repeatedly participated in various exhibitions, step by step acquiring the status of the most famous painter of Albania during the interwar period.
In 1942, the artist organized a solo exhibition in the Italian city of Bari .
More than 400 graphic and pictorial works of Mio are kept in the museums and art galleries of Tirana and Korca.
Memory
In Korce, in the artist’s birthplace, the local Palace of Culture bears his name, as well as one of the streets. In addition, the Vangyush Mio House Museum (founded in 1945; reconstructed in 1995), one of the most visited art museums in Albania, was opened in Korce [~ 4] [5] [6] .
