Biography

Frank-Peter Bischof was born on August 20, 1954 in the city of Forst . He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained at the Berlin-Grünau sports club in the capital.

He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1976, when he became a member of the German national team and thanks to a series of successful performances he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal . As part of a four-seater crew, which also included rowers Rüdiger Helm , Bernd Duvigno and Jürgen Lenert , won a bronze medal at a distance of 1000 meters, losing in the final to teams from the USSR and Spain.

In 1978, Bischoff attended the World Championships in Yugoslav Belgrade, from where he brought a golden dignity, won in the offset of four-four kayaks at five hundred meters. Being one of the leaders of the GDR rowing team, he successfully qualified for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow - he started alone at a distance of 500 meters, reached the final stage of the tournament, but in the decisive race he showed only the fifth result, not reaching the prize positions.

After the Moscow Olympics, Frank-Peter Bischof remained in the main team of the German national team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1981, he performed at the world championship in Nottingham, England, where he twice climbed the podium - in four he received bronze at five hundred meters and gold at a thousand, thus becoming a two-time world champion. A year later, at similar competitions in Belgrade, in the same fours he took bronze in the standings of the half-kilometer distance and silver in the standings of the kilometer distance. Soon after the end of these competitions, he decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to young German rowers in the national team.

Married to the famous German kayaker Martin Bischof , Olympic champion, four-time world champion.
