History

The division was formed in August 1940. On June 22, 1941, the division’s management was based in Kobrin , the regiments were based at the airfields of Kobrin, Pinsk , Pruzhany , Strigovo . [1] The division had 248 aircraft of the types Pe-2 , Yak-1 , I-16 , I-15 , I-153 , SB , of which 19 were malfunctioning.

As part of the army from June 22, 1941 to October 17, 1941 and from December 25, 1941 to January 27, 1942.

The division was based on border airfields, which fell under the main attack of the 2nd Panzer Group , and more importantly, the main forces of the Luftwaffe were concentrated in this direction. The regiments that make up the division, in the morning of June 22, 1941, underwent several air strikes. As a result of these attacks, according to various estimates, they suffered losses from the complete destruction of the material part to very large (three quarters of the aircraft). The sources of the Soviet era refer to the figure of 180 aircraft lost in one day. [2] [3] From the operational report of the 4th Army headquarters it follows that “... the 10th mixed aviation division suffered huge losses on 22.6.41 (both fighter and assault aviation regiments were almost completely destroyed) in the morning and in the hostilities did not accept ... ". Nevertheless, it follows from the memoirs of the division commander that on June 22, 1941 both bombers and fighters from the division regiments took to the air. As early as June 23, 1941, the division’s administration was withdrawn to the rear, where in the second half of July 1941 it was placed at the disposal of the Front of the Reserve Armies .

Combining new regiments under his command, the division operates in a westerly direction, including participation in the Elninsky operation of September 1941. Since October 1941, it has been part of the 43rd Army .

From November 24, 1941, as part of a group of General Petrov, it struck airfields and enemy troops in the areas of Klin , Yakhroma , Solnechnogorsk , and until December 10, 1941, it flew 358 sorties, losing 10 planes.

In the autumn and winter of 1941-1942, it is based in the Kaluga region , in December it became part of the air group of Major General Nikolayenko , which acted in the interests of the 1st Guards Cavalry Corps , which broke through to the rear of the enemy. In January 1942, it covers the airport of Przemysl , where aircraft were concentrated for delivery to the rear of the Vyazemsky landing .

On January 27, 1942, the division’s directorate turned to the formation of the Air Force Directorate of the 50th Army .
