Russian-Zambian relations
On December 31, 1991, Zambia recognized the Russian Federation as the successor state of the Soviet Union, after the last dissolution. The impetus for the development of a traditionally friendly political dialogue was given by the exchange of messages between the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Zambia M. Satoy, initiated by the Russian side in August 2012. The heads of state expressed their mutual disposition to build up bilateral cooperation with an emphasis on its economic component.
