History
They first arrived in Kuwait in the 1940s. Most of them have now moved to the UK, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Kurdistan because they did not receive Kuwaiti citizenship.
After the invasion of Saddam Hussein’s military in Kuwait, the attitude towards the Kurds has changed dramatically for the worse. Kuwaiti authorities are constantly attacking the Kurds, infringing on their rights because they came from Iraq. Of the 5,000 Kurds living in Kuwait, 3,500 have Iraqi passports. Due to the deteriorating situation, the Kurds filed requests to European and Scandinavian embassies with the aim of leaving Kuwait, fearing that the Kuwaiti authorities would deport them to Iraq, where they are likely to face abuse by the Iraqi authorities due to a Kurdish uprising in northern Iraq.
