History
Initially, the county was called Vuren, and its capital was Gravenvuren , but after the construction of the castle in Dahlem in 1080, on a cliff between Berwain and Bollan , the county changed its name to Dahlem.
Until 1085, the castle belonged to Hermann II of Lorraine . Since 1150, these lands passed to the counts of Hochstaden. In 1239, Henry II of Brabant conquered these lands from Dirk of Hochstaden, and in 1244 created the county of Dahlem. County Dahlem was in personal union with the Duchy of Brabant: the Duke of Brabant simultaneously held the title of Count Dahlem.
As a result of the Eighty Years War, the county of Dahl was divided into two parts under a treaty of 1661: Dahl, Oln, Tramble, Fene, Bolbek, Kadir and Ost were incorporated into the Republic of the United Provinces , the rest of the land remained in the possession of Spain. The section itself was produced in 1663. As a result of the war for the Spanish inheritance, the Spanish part of the county passed to Austria. In 1785, in accordance with the agreement in Fontainebleau, the main part of the county was transferred to Austria in exchange for the Austrian part of Valkenburg; the Republic of the United Provinces left only Ost and Kadir.
In 1797, the main part of these lands was annexed by France and became part of the Department of Urt .
