History
OS X El Capitan was announced on June 8, 2015 at WWDC 2015. At the presentation, a developer from Epic Games demonstrated the new Metal technology on Mac, released for iOS in 2014.

So, the ninth version of the system was called Mavericks - in honor of the beach popular in surfers in California, the tenth - Yosemite - in honor of the famous reserve , and the eleventh (El Capitan) - in honor of the highest El Capitan Mountain in Yosemite National Park .
