Qazaq Air

Qazaq Air Joint Stock Company is a Kazakh airline, a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna , with the main hub at the Almaty airport , established to provide affordable regional air transportation. The main mission of Qazaq Air is to connect regional centers in the Republic of Kazakhstan and thereby improve the economic development of the regions.

History

In April 2015, JSC Samruk-Kazyna established a subsidiary company, Qazaq Air, JSC [2] . The airline was presented on July 6, 2015 in Astana [3] [4] [5]

The first flight took place on August 27, 2015 on the route Almaty - Astana [6] . During the first five days of the flight, more than 900 people used the services of the airline [7] , on October 21, 2015 it was reported that the airline had transported more than 10 thousand passengers since its foundation [8] .

April 7, 2016 and. about. Blair Pollock, Chairman of the Board, stated: “All these investments that were received from our shareholder, Samruk-Kazyna Fund, will be returned back to this shareholder. We intend to return these investments in the fourth year of our activity ” [9] .

In May 2017 , the first Kazakhstani pilots began their duties at the airline. Since before that, the national cadres did not have the skills to control a new type of aircraft for Kazakhstan, in 2015, Qazaq Air selected 16 Kazakhstani pilots to train Bombardier Q400 aircraft . By the end of May 2017, 15 Kazakhstani pilots were allowed to carry out independent flights in the position of co-pilot of Qazaq Air, one pilot became the first aircraft commander in Kazakhstan [10] .

At the end of 2017, the performance of Qazaq Air increased significantly compared with previous years: in 2017, more than 250 thousand passengers took advantage of the company's services (an increase of 53.6% over the same period of 2016) [11] , the number of routes increased to 15.

In March 2018, Qazaq Air reported that it had transported more than 500 thousand passengers since the founding of the airline.

In July 2017, the company completed the first international flight - according to the charter program, the carrier began to fly from Almaty to the Issyk-Kul airport in the village of Tamchy ( Kyrgyzstan ) [12] .

In June 2018, China Airlines China Express Airlines (Huaxia Airlines) expressed willingness to participate in the privatization of Qazaq Air. Regional air carriers signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of strategic cooperation, which also involves the interaction of operators in the field of international passenger traffic [13] .

In November 2018, Qazaq Air became the third carrier of Kazakhstan that passed the operational safety audit of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and received the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certificate from this organization [14] .

Airline fleet

The Qazaq Air fleet consists of Bombardier Dash 8-400 NextGen turboprop aircraft. The first 3 aircraft were taken into operational leasing from the company Falcon Aviation Services LLC from Abu Dhabi ( UAE ) [15] . Based on the financial statements for 2016, the media reported that the rent cost $ 610-615 thousand per month, with an average market price of $ 95-195 thousand. [16]

In December 2017, a contract was signed for the purchase of two new Bombardier Q400 NextGen airliners [17] , the delivery of which was made in the first half of 2019 [18] .
