Biography
Born March 28, 1920 on the island of Principio, near Constantinople, in the Ottoman Empire in the family of Jacob and Catherine Amaryllios. He studied at the Printing School.
In 1940 he graduated from the Halka Theological School , writing a dissertation «Δυνατὸν τοῦ θαύματος καὶ αἱ κατ᾽ αὐτοῦ Ἐνστάσεις τῶν Νεωτέρων" (The possibility of a miracle and against his objections by contemporaries). On November 3, 1941, in the Trinity Cathedral, Metropolitan Emilian of Philadelphia (Papadimitriou) was ordained a deacon and served as archdeacon in the Principonis Metropolis.
From September 1949 to 1951 he worked under the patriarchate as a junior secretary and head of the patriarchal printing house, and in January 1951 he was appointed deputy general secretary of the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople. December 10, 1957 appointed Secretary General of the Holy Synod. At the same time he taught at the Great School of the Nation .
December 22, 1957 was ordained a presbyter .
On April 21, 1964 he was elected and on April 26 for Palm Sunday in the St. George’s Patriarchal Cathedral, he was ordained bishop . He was elevated to the dignity of Metropolitan of Irinopolsky.
On November 5, 1985, he was appointed provisionally managing director of the Prince Islands Metropolitanate , and on June 9, 1987 he was appointed managing director of the metropolis.
On July 9, 2002, he was appointed Metropolitan of Nicomedia.
He died on October 18, 2003.
