Biography

Born in 1916 in Delft . At first he was fond of football, for fun he took up running and found a great talent in it. In 1934 he became the owner of two bronze medals of the European Championship. In 1936, he won bronze medals at the Olympic Games in Berlin at distances of 100 m and 200 m, and the press called him “the fastest of white sprinters” (black Americans dominated in this type of competition). In 1938, he won two gold medals at the European Championships.

After the Netherlands was occupied by Germany during the Second World War, Martinius Osendarp took part in the occupying power structures, joined the National Socialist Movement in 1941, and volunteered for the SS in 1943.

In 1948 he was sentenced to 12 years in prison, was prematurely released in 1953. After his release, he preferred not to return to his previous job, worked in coal mines, and was engaged in teaching athletics.
